If you are new to the United Methodist denomination, you might wonder, "What is a United Methodist Church?" That is not an easy question to answer.

Methodism traces its history from the 1st century and the teachings of Christ, Paul, Augustine, Francis and others. It has its roots in the Church of England and was founded after the teachings of John Wesley, an Anglican priest, about 1738. The United Methodist Church was formed out of the union of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1968.

That is the simple answer. We hope that as you become more familiar with Grace, you will avail yourself of the opportunity to learn more about our history. This congregation of the United Methodist Church was chartered in 1858 which makes us about 160 years old.

Upon entering the doors, you will be greeted and given a bulletin. If you are attending the 9:15 or 10:45 AM service, you can also follow the service on the screen which also contains the words of the hymns, congregational prayers and responses and scripture. If you are attending the River of Life service, most of the direction will come from the pastor or worship team. Hymnals are not used, but the words to the songs are on the screen. It is an interactive service in which all will be invited to participate.

Visitors will not be asked to stand so that everyone can see them. There is a time in the service toward the end, the Shalom (or Peace of God), when everyone is invited to stand and greet one another. At that time we hope those around you will make you feel welcome.

We do hope that you will fill out the registration portion of the bulletin so that if you are a new resident looking for a church home, we can get more information to you.
